A pair of African migrants have been convicted of raping a student in County Donegal.

Ghanian nationals Boakye Osei and Kelvin Opuk, aged 29 and 33, following a five-week trial, were found guilty of rape by a jury of seven men and four women after just two hours of deliberation, The Irish Times reports.

Following the guilty verdicts, Justice Alex Owens certified the two African migrants as sex offenders and ordered a Probation Service report for both men. The judge also ordered a victim impact to be prepared for Osei and Opuk’s sentencing date which is set for January 13th.

The victim, who is now in her 20s, testified in front of the court that before the rape took place she had been out drinking at a local night club with a friend. As she and her friend attempted to stumble home the two men asked if they needed a ride. Next, she said the two drove them back to an apartment and offered them a drinks.

Also during her testimony, the victim, who said she was “blind drunk” at the time, told the jury that she recalled lying on a bed, feeling something heavy on top of her, and then feeling something “inside of her”. Shortly after, she said the men switched places and the second man raped her.

“I was halfway between sleep and drunkenness. I felt like I didn’t know what was happening. I didn’t know if it was a dream or it was actually happening. I was just so drunk,” she said.

“In terms of consenting, I in no way did consent to having sex with these men or to them touching me or coming near me in any intimate way,” she added.

Earlier this year in May, a 54-year-old African migrant was convicted by an Irish court of sexually abusing the intellectually disabled daughter of his former partner. The girl was just 11-year-old at the time. The man was sentenced to just 13 years in prison.
