Primary school deputy head, Julie Morris is charged over rape of a child under 13.

Primary school deputy head, Julie Morris.

A deputy head teacher at a primary school has been charged with facilitating the rape of a girl under 13, it emerged yesterday.

Julie Morris, 44, who has worked at St George’s Central Church of England Primary School for around ten years, was remanded in custody when she appeared in court on Monday.

The pedophile is charged with aiding and abetting the rape of a girl under 13 and inciting sexual activity with a child, also under 13.

Morris, who is the maths and religious education lead at the school, in Tyldesley near Wigan, has been suspended by Wigan Council.

Police confirmed that Morris from Hindley, near Wigan, had been charged alongside 52-year-old David Morris, of Eccleston, near St Helens, on Merseyside, who is accused of raping the child victim.

He has been charged with three counts of rape of a girl under 13 and inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

David Morris is not Julie Morris’s husband and the pair are not related. The alleged victim is not believed to be a pupil and a spokesman for Merseyside police said the offences were ‘unrelated’ to Julie Morris’s employment.

However, parents of children at the 340-pupil school told of their shock yesterday at hearing that she had been charged with such serious offences.

One, who broke down in tears, said: ‘It is all very upsetting.’

Another parent said: ‘We’d heard rumours over the summer and then we got told she’d been charged.’

A spokesman for Merseyside police said: ‘We can confirm that two people have been charged with child sex offences which are alleged to have taken place in Eccleston.

‘David Morris has been charged with three counts of rape of a girl under 13 and causing and inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

‘Julie Morris has been charged with aiding and abetting the rape of a girl under 13 and inciting sexual activity with a child under 13. Julie Morris is employed in the education sector in Wigan.

Both accused were remanded into custody by magistrates in Liverpool on Monday and are due to appear before a judge at Liverpool Crown Court on October 4.
