Two Muslim men arrested for plotting jihad massacre with daggers, axes and car bombs.

Dutch prosecutors said on Tuesday they had arrested two Muslim men on suspicion of preparing an Islamist militant attack with “bomb vests or one or more car bombs” in the Netherlands. Police conducting a raid on one suspect’s house seized a dagger, a throwing axe, a mobile phone and computer chips in a hidden space, though no explosives were found, according to a prosecutors’ statement. It said police acted on a tip-off from the Dutch national intelligence agency AIVD that “said the suspects intended to carry out a jihadist attack … They were said to be planning to use explosives and undergo training to use them.”

The two suspects, who were arrested on Monday, are aged 20 and 34 and from the town of Zoetermeer, just east of The Hague. It was not immediately clear what the pair’s target was, but they were suspected of plotting to carry out an attack in late December. Evidence leading to the arrests came primarily from police informants, the prosecutors’ statement said.
