Swiss police arrested a 28-year-old Algerian migrant earlier this week after he broke into a women’s home in the village of Holderbank and tried to rape her.

The victim was fast asleep before she was woken up by man trying to rape her with his hand cupped around her mouth and nose, Swiss daily newspaper 20 Minutes reports.

The woman managed to free herself from the attacker and ran to a neighbor’s house. Just after the victim rang her neighbor’s doorbell, the migrant attacker caught up to her, punched her in the face and broke her nose before fleeing the scene.

After the victim made it inside her neighbor’s house at about 3:00 am, she contacted police who arrived at the scene shortly after. Following a search of the immediate area, police were able to locate the would-be rapist hiding bushes close by.

Police say that migrant attacker, who was likely under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the attack, was able to gain entry into the woman’s house because the door had been left unlocked.

Police spokesman Bernhard Graser commended the woman’s bravery, saying: “She was able to overcome the shock and confront her attacker. That’s impressive.”

“The prosecution has opened a criminal investigation for attempted rape,” Graser added.
